The People Around Us
(Formerly The 'Some Elbow Room' Podcast)
There are so many ways to live a life and this podcast is testament to that!
Our conversations are honest, fun, reflective and interesting and we hope to inspire our listeners who may be a bit stuck in their work to stop and think about what they really want in life - to create “some elbow room”.
Specifically, to put some time aside to really think about:
(1) How their current job suits their personality
(2) The impact it is having on their own wellbeing & happiness and
(3) The influence it is having on the relationships most important in their life.
Our guest’s stories unfold key moments of change. Often influenced by their work, we talk about how those changes have impacted their lives. Whether our guest recognised an opportunity or had a plan, said yes instead of no or just fell on their feet - their lives often turned for the better! We also discuss how being part of a group or community is important to feeling that sense of belonging and how much belonging influences one’s happiness and wellbeing. This podcast may even inspire you to seek it out if you don’t have it in your life. Our guests show there are many ways to live a life and finding a balance between ambition, hard work and fun is the place to be!
This is what we explore from all directions and more on the “The People Around Us” Podcast. Enjoy!
The People Around Us
Forever A Free Spirit - Richard Osborne
Richard Osborne is a humble free spirit who lives' in the present.
Outside of his friends and family, he is best known for his incredible AFL playing career of 283 games and 574 goals at 4 different clubs. Simply fantastic player who also represented Victoria in 'State of Origin' Football 8 times in what can only be described as a stellar career.
From a non - football playing career perspective he's worked in sales over a number of different industries, in the Media for Channel 7, helped run a friends Importing business out of Vietnam and currently works in the Oil & Gas industry travelling from Melbourne to Perth on a fortnightly basis to work on a ship in the middle of the ocean!
Like all of us, "Ozzie" has faced adversity through is life and thanks his self made positive attitude to helping him get through these times. During his football career, his adversity primarily come through injury and some of them significant too! For example a nasty knee reconstruction and a sickening concussion thanks to a head clash with a team mate while playing for the Sydney Swans. Only a few years ago he found out that he actually died for a short time only to come back a few weeks later and kick 10 goals . Pretty scary and equally amazing!!
Richard has an incredibly positive, laid back, uncomplicated attitude to life taking responsibility for his own happiness which has been enhanced thanks to his learnings and passion of Psychology. He is constantly aware of things that have a negative impact on his happiness and very self aware of the compatibility between his personality and the work he is doing. Everything this podcast is all about!!
It's a great listen and we hope you enjoy !!
