The People Around Us
(Formerly The 'Some Elbow Room' Podcast)
There are so many ways to live a life and this podcast is testament to that!
Our conversations are honest, fun, reflective and interesting and we hope to inspire our listeners who may be a bit stuck in their work to stop and think about what they really want in life - to create “some elbow room”.
Specifically, to put some time aside to really think about:
(1) How their current job suits their personality
(2) The impact it is having on their own wellbeing & happiness and
(3) The influence it is having on the relationships most important in their life.
Our guest’s stories unfold key moments of change. Often influenced by their work, we talk about how those changes have impacted their lives. Whether our guest recognised an opportunity or had a plan, said yes instead of no or just fell on their feet - their lives often turned for the better! We also discuss how being part of a group or community is important to feeling that sense of belonging and how much belonging influences one’s happiness and wellbeing. This podcast may even inspire you to seek it out if you don’t have it in your life. Our guests show there are many ways to live a life and finding a balance between ambition, hard work and fun is the place to be!
This is what we explore from all directions and more on the “The People Around Us” Podcast. Enjoy!
The People Around Us
The Quirky, Clever, Surf Loving Artist - David Rossiter - PART A
David Rossiter creates his own luck in life and has done it his own way.
After growing up in the suburbs of Melbourne, he found himself living on the coast of Victoria in Torquay where he could embrace his love of surfing back in the 70's & 80's when surfing was raw and real as ever. It remains his home today and his love of surfing has not diminished one little bit. The stories he can tell about his surfing & travelling life and the places he's been would blow you away and we'd need 20 podcasts to even go close to covering it all properly!
After working in the printing industry for 11 years, he created a role for himself at 'Quicksilver' where he started out sweeping the floors of the warehouse to shortly thereafter running the very first concept store in Torquay and eventually being the person in charge to take it to Asia and abroad. Twenty six years later in his early 50's, David had put himself into a position where he could leave the corporate world and finally start his dream job as a full time artist. And what an artist he is (Please check out @ david_rossiter_art (previously @smileyrooster) on Instagram).
David lives life like no other and epitomises the mantra of 'work hard, play hard' always finding the time to do the things he loves while working incredibly hard over his lifetime. A mad surfer back in his day before hurting his ears, a marathon runner, martial artist, family man, cheeky, funny, forever studying, super keen traveller and an immense love of India makes David one of the most interesting people anyone could ever meet.
David has 'done life' the right way so far and is living the ethos of what @someelbowroompodcast is all about thanks to his endless energy, thirst to learn, being true to himself and seeing the good in people and the world he lives in. Enjoy !!
