The People Around Us
(Formerly The 'Some Elbow Room' Podcast)
There are so many ways to live a life and this podcast is testament to that!
Our conversations are honest, fun, reflective and interesting and we hope to inspire our listeners who may be a bit stuck in their work to stop and think about what they really want in life - to create “some elbow room”.
Specifically, to put some time aside to really think about:
(1) How their current job suits their personality
(2) The impact it is having on their own wellbeing & happiness and
(3) The influence it is having on the relationships most important in their life.
Our guest’s stories unfold key moments of change. Often influenced by their work, we talk about how those changes have impacted their lives. Whether our guest recognised an opportunity or had a plan, said yes instead of no or just fell on their feet - their lives often turned for the better! We also discuss how being part of a group or community is important to feeling that sense of belonging and how much belonging influences one’s happiness and wellbeing. This podcast may even inspire you to seek it out if you don’t have it in your life. Our guests show there are many ways to live a life and finding a balance between ambition, hard work and fun is the place to be!
This is what we explore from all directions and more on the “The People Around Us” Podcast. Enjoy!
The People Around Us
"Date or Donor" - An IVF Leap of Faith - Melanie McClure - PART B
Please listen to Part A first of all to fully enjoy this episode.
Growing up part of a close knit family in the country, Melanie McClure always wanted to be a Mum but was in no rush. After high school, she moved to Geelong to go to university then lived the life in Melbourne partying with friends to live bands in gritty pubs while travelling the world as much as possible and working hard on her career along the way. She had a great time creating this life all on her own and loved it.
When her friends started to get married and have children in their late 20's and early 30's, she was really happy for them but still had much more to do seeing the world and continued to do so into her late 30's. Now make no mistake, she didn't struggle meeting men but to put it bluntly, no one really rocked her world and was happy to wait. Then, when she thought her biological clock was ticking, Melanie once again took control of her own destiny creating the life she wanted heading down the track of having children via IVF..... on her own !!!!
Luckily for her it all eventually worked out and now has 2 beautiful kids in Myles & Evelyn with fantastic family support around her. She knows she is very lucky as this isn't always the way with IVF. Also, doing it on her own has been harder than she anticipated at times especially during covid lock downs.
Melanie created the life she wanted regardless of what anyone said or society said she 'had to do' and this is her story.
Warning: Please ask a friend, family member or health professional to listen to Melanie's' story first if you think this may be difficult to hear as this story is a successful one in terms of having a baby via IVF.
