The People Around Us
(Formerly The 'Some Elbow Room' Podcast)
There are so many ways to live a life and this podcast is testament to that!
Our conversations are honest, fun, reflective and interesting and we hope to inspire our listeners who may be a bit stuck in their work to stop and think about what they really want in life - to create “some elbow room”.
Specifically, to put some time aside to really think about:
(1) How their current job suits their personality
(2) The impact it is having on their own wellbeing & happiness and
(3) The influence it is having on the relationships most important in their life.
Our guest’s stories unfold key moments of change. Often influenced by their work, we talk about how those changes have impacted their lives. Whether our guest recognised an opportunity or had a plan, said yes instead of no or just fell on their feet - their lives often turned for the better! We also discuss how being part of a group or community is important to feeling that sense of belonging and how much belonging influences one’s happiness and wellbeing. This podcast may even inspire you to seek it out if you don’t have it in your life. Our guests show there are many ways to live a life and finding a balance between ambition, hard work and fun is the place to be!
This is what we explore from all directions and more on the “The People Around Us” Podcast. Enjoy!

A Lifetime of Saying Yes More Than No - David Nancarrow - Part A
This episode is about the life of David Nancarrow and the second of three focusing on the hosts of the podcast.
David has created a very successful, fun life while travelling and working all around the world ! This isn't only due to his high intellect, confidence or somewhat gregarious nature either. It's a conscious decision to remain constantly aware of what's going on around him, challenge why things are done a particular way and when an opportunity or new experience presents itself, he says "yes" more than he says "no."
"Why wouldn't you!!" as he often says.
David can talk to anyone regardless of their background or who they may be and people want to be around him. Having said that, the inner down to earth, cheeky aussie kid from a good upbringing keeps him grounded when he may get ahead of himself as do those around him. The "kid" in David is always well and truly dominating though to ensure fun, conversation and banter is never too far away!!
One of the things we talk a lot about on the podcast is making sure you create space in your life to do more of things you love. Well, our host "Nankers" is the epitome of this attitude while also working very hard and being a great family man and friend to many. The community and friendship group he has created for himself is amazing and varied but he puts the effort in to stay in touch with his mates & family and deserves everything he gets in life.
We are lucky to have Dave as a host and hope you enjoy getting know him a lot more. Enjoy !
PS - Thanks to Craig Slarke for the cameo intro and outro.
